Eruption in Reykjanes is over

The eruption that began on November 20th has come to an end, this is confirmed by Civil Protection who flew a drone over the area earlier today.

The announcement states that the last time lava was seen coming from the crater was the morning of December 8th. Since then the area has had extreme weather conditions with strong winds, heavy rain, and fog meaning the craters weren't visible on camera.

The eruption began on November 20th and has lasted 18-days. It was the second largest eruption, out of the seven that have occurred since December 2023, in terms of area covered.

In recent days, land rise has already begun again in the area. This indicates that magma accumilation under Svartsengi has resumed.
