Welcoming the first cruise ship to Keflavík harbour - Azamara Quest

A cruise ship is expected to arrive in Keflavik on Saturday with around 700 passengers. A third of that group, over 200 passengers, are on their way to organized group trips. It is also expected that up to 400 passengers from the ship will wander around the center of Keflavik and try to find entertainment, visit shops and restaurants.

The cruise ship Azamara Quest is a 30,000 ton ship that is sailing around Iceland. It comes to Reykjanesbær from Grundarfjörður. It will arrive at the outer harbor in Keflavík around 08:00 on Saturday morning and then continues the journey at 20:00 in the evening. The ship will not dock, instead passengers will be transported to land via passenger boats.

The ship will be the first to arrive at the Keflavík docks, after great efforts were made to welcome cruises to the area. In 2017 an assessment of the local ports was made, and improvements have followed.

Halldór Karl, the port manager, says that the ship's arrival on Saturday hopefully marks the beginning of something bigger - and that Reykjanes has a lot to offer to cruise passengers, with stunning local nature, geothermal areas, historic sites, a wide variety of food options, and more.

We at Visit Reykjanes welcome the passengers onboard Azamara Quest, and hope you enjoy your time here on the Reykjanes Peninsula.

Dear passengers - check out our brochure on things to see and do in the local area.
