Gas pollution at the eruption site and a new hazard map published
The chief of police in Reykjanes peninsula, in consultation with scientists and an epidemiologist, has taken the decision to close all trails to the volcano due to massive gas pollution that is life-threatening. In the next few hours, it is likely that there will be a lot of gas pollution and it will build up due to light winds. People who have already left for the eruption site, or have arrived at the site, are asked to turn around immediately.
Work is being done on how to make access to the volcano as easy as possible once gas pollution has been reduced.
Tourist service providers are encouraged to show responsibility and under no circumstances organize trips to the eruption until the area has been opened.
