Umbra and Hallgrímur á Föstutónum í Hvalsneskirkju

April 13 at 20:00-21:00

Price description

3.500

At this concert, Umbra delves into the secular and religious poems of Hallgrímur Pétursson and searches widely for musical material. Bjarni Þorsteinsson's Folk Music Collection is an important source here, and the orchestra makes use of melodies from there as well as to compose new material, especially to Hallgrímur's secular poems. Well-known hymns will also be heard in Umbra's new arrangements, which approach them in light of the soundscape for which the orchestra is chronicled.

The music group UMBRA has been active since 2014 and has primarily focused on medieval music and Icelandic folk songs. Umbra has released four albums on Dimma Label and received the Icelandic Music Awards in 2018 for the Christmas album "Sólhvörf". The latest album "Bjargrúnir" from 2022, which shines a spotlight on Icelandic folk music heritage, was released in 10 European countries by the Nordic Notes label. In recent years, the group has played abroad to an increasing extent, where the group's interesting and original approach to songwriting and arrangements has attracted attention. The group toured China and France recently and ahead of them are tours to India and Germany in 2025. The group received artists' salaries in 2024.

The concert is about an hour long and starts at 20:00. Admission is ISK 3500 and admission is free for children up to the age of eighteen. Tickets are sold at the entrance.
The concert is supported by the District Fund of the Kjalarnes Diocese.
