Due to increased seismic activity in the Reykjanes peninsula, visitors are asked to stay away from mountains and slopes in the area as there is a case of possible rockfall and landslides. That goes for hiking trails, cliffs by the coastline and the roads (no. 42 and 427).

A volcanic eruption might start on short notice in the region and scientists estimate it could erupt near Mt. Keilir. A hazard map has been published that shows the area which is not eligible for hiking (see here).
