Visitor center Reykjanes Geopark
Welcome to the visitor center of Reykjanes Geopark in Duushús in Keflavík.
Duushús is the Art and Cultural Center of Reykjanesbær. A new exhibiton about formation and shaping of Reykjanes Peninsula and also a tourism information office was opened there last friday the 13th of March.
This is the first visitor center in the Geopark. The role is to inform and educate guests about the Geopark area, the uniqueness, geology, nature, history, service and recreation. The new exhibiton describes graphically the formation of Reykjanes Peninsula. Guest can learn about geology and nature in simple and accessible way. The goal is to share knowledge and information about Reykjanes Geopark and Reykjanes Peninsula. The visitor center can be useful both to travellers and locals. It will be very suitable for educational institutions and school groups.
The visitor center will also serve as information center for the Reykjanes region and is defined as regional center.
The exhibition is located in so-called Pier-house which is a part of Duushús in the heart of town Keflavík. The Pier-house was built in 1877 and is the oldest and most important of them all. Kjartan Már Kjartansson the major of Reykjanes town and Róbert Ragnarsson chairman of Reykjanes Geopark opened it formally and also signed a contract about the operation and development of the visitor center and operation of informations centres for travellers.
Opening hours are on the week days from 12:00-17:00. Weekends from 13:00-17:00.
