Recent eruption has stopped

The volcanic eruption at the Sundhnúkagígar crater row has apparently ceased, with no signs of activity detected during a noon observation by the civil defense using drones on Saturday June 22nd. 

This is stated in an announcement by the Icelandic Met Office.

The seismic activity at the nearby earthquake meters has stabilized and is now at levels similar to those recorded before the eruption started.

The older lava flow is expected to continue flowing slowly, primarily along the northern part of Mt Sýlingarfell and at the L1 defense wall, where it has been splashing over the wall.

The surrounding area remains closed to the public, however, you can still access the Blue Lagoon via a new route.
