Blue Lagoon Reopens

All Blue Lagoon facilities are open again as of today (June 11th 2024).

The eruption at Sundhnúkagígar is ongoing but at a safe distance from the Blue Lagoon. Last week, one of the lava flows slowly and steadily reached road no—43 towards Grindavik and the Blue Lagoon, resulting in closures of the road and the Blue Lagoon.

Today the Blue Lagoon has reopened, however the primary access road has been damaged by lava flows, requiring visitors to use a temporary alternative route to reach the site.

Updated information from the Blue Lagoon on how to get there:

Drive along road no. 41 (Reykjanesbraut). Near the town Njarðvík, turn to road no. 44 (Hafnavegur). Continue until you pass Grindavík town and reach road no. 426 (Norðurljósavegur). Follow this road until you see a Blue Lagoon sign, make a left turn, and continue until you arrive at our site. The estimated travel distance is approximately 80 km from Reykjavík (around 50 miles) and 45 km from Keflavík (around 28 miles).

Please note that guests must present a booking confirmation at the entry point, which could lead to delays. Please ensure you allow extra time for the journey.
